The emc2 project is carried out by a consortium of four academic research units and four local authorities in four different European countries : UMR ESPACE (CNRS – Université Côte d’Azur – Aix-Marseille Université – Avignon Université), Agence d’Urbanisme Azuréenne (AUA) and Agence de Développement et d’Urbanisme de Lille Métropole (ADULM), in France, SMoG (Chalmers University of Technology) and City of Gothenburg, in Sweden, DESTeC (University of Pisa) and City of Viareggio, in Italy, as well as the Department of Urban Design (Vienna University of Technology), in Austria.

The emc2 project received a total grant of 1.3 M Euros by four national funding agencies who act jointly within the Driving Urban Transition Partnership: ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche) in France, Vinnova (Verket för innovationssystem) in Sweden, MUR (Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca) in Italy, and FFG ( Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft) in Austria.

The Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Partnership builds upon and steps up the ambition and efforts of JPI Urban Europe. With its more than 60 partners from 28 countries, it does not only facilitate the cooperation across countries but creates a platform for connecting and aligning European and national strategies and activities. It aims for significant contribution to the EU Mission on Climate Neutral Cities, the European Green Deal, and the Urban Agenda for the EU by developing and implementing a transformative research and innovation (R&I) programme. Comprehensive programme management measures are enhancing the impact of DUT activities and projects and build capacities to address the urban related anthropogenic crises and challenges.
