This protocol, developed as part of the EMC² research project, provides a four-step procedure for acquiring, processing, and analyzing geospatial data from OpenStreetMap (OSM) and Global Human Settlement (GHS) data using Python and associated libraries. The PPCA protocol aims at evaluating population potentials within specified pedestrian catchment areas globally, requiring only bounding box coordinates for the area of interest.

Joan, a member of the emc² consortium, recently presented a paper at the International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA 2024) held in Hanoi, Vietnam from July 1-4, 2024, in collaboration with Thuyloi University. The paper, co-authored with Giovanni Fusco, is titled "Potential of the 15-Minute Peripheral City: Identifying Main Streets and Population Within Walking Distance."
Giovanni Fusco delivered the presentation titled 'The Evolutive Meshed Compact City – A New Framework for the 15mC in Peripheral Areas' at the 23rd European Colloquium on Theoretical and Quantitative Geography (ECTQG 2023) in Braga, Portugal, held from September 14th to 17th, 2023. The presentation, a collaborative effort with Meta Berghauser Pont, Valerio Cutini, and, Angelika Psenner provides an overview of the emc2 model and introduces the research project, which aims to assess its advantages and weaknesses through six European case studies.
