On February 27, 2025, members of the EMC2 project gathered at IMREDD (Nice) to review the progress of WP5 in France.
This meeting brought together teams from the ESPACE laboratory, the Agence d’Urbanisme Azuréenne, and the Agence de Développement et d’Urbanisme de Lille Métropole. The focus was on the ongoing studies in the suburban villages of Drap (Alpes-Maritimes) and Seclin (Nord)—the two French case studies where the EMC2 project aims to test its model in real-world settings through close collaboration with local authorities.
By bridging research with on-the-ground expertise, this initiative fosters a deeper understanding of spatial dynamics and urban planning challenges, paving the way for innovative solutions.
🔎 Data Collection and Analysis
📍 Drap: Giovanni Fusco and Grégoire Picard (ESPACE laboratory) presented results on urban patterns and human behaviours and usages. First recommendations deriving from these analyses were also discussed with AUA. All these elements are the content of a research note they just released.
📍 Seclin: Lara Spieck (ESPACE laboratory and Urban Design – Technical University of Vienna) is currently conducting similar analysis for a comparative approach, in collaboration with ADULM.
💡 A Cross-Analysis of the Case Studies
Discussions with local actors helped refine the preliminary findings and foster a deeper conversation on the specific dynamics of each area.
